Dr Jeremy Ellman

is a senior lecturer in Computer Science (Faculty of Engineering & Envirnoment) Northumbria University, where he wrote and currently leads  modules in 'Artificial Intelligence for Applications', 'Cloud Computing and Web APIs' and 'Security for Web Applications'. Previously Jeremy was Chief Technology of Wordmap Ltd, a commercial taxonomy developer and vendor. Earlier he was a software project manager who coordinated three EU funded Telematics projects under frameworks four and five, and was partner project manager for four further Esprit and Telematics projects.


Jeremy has PhD in Computer Science and Information Retrieval from the University of Sunderland, an MSc in Computer Science from the University of Essex, and a BSc in Experimental Psychology from the University of Sussex.

Jeremy’s research interests include various aspects of Information Retrieval, technology, the Internet, and its implications. These include data clustering from multiple information sources(e.g. Ellman and Emery 2007),  especially using Taxonomy and Ontologies (Ellman J. and Bell B 2007, Ellman J.  2004 ), but also using machine learning approaches where appropriate.
